Ne-Yo Aspires to Play Marvin Gaye in Film

The singer would love to star as the soul icon.

With his new album, R.E.D., in stores, Ne-Yo is recharged and ready to take his career to the next level. After taking 100 percent responsibility for the mediocre sales on his last album, Libra Scale, the new Senior VP of A&R at Motown has high aspirations for his latest record and even wants to jump back into acting. In talking to Motown founder Berry Gordy, he's fallen in love with the career of Marvin Gaye and told AOL that he wants to play the legend on screen.

"Marvin Gaye was a drummer. He wasn't even an artist, he was the drummer for everybody else and then they decided to give him a shot. I just feel like his story is really incredible," gushed the R&B star. "If given an opportunity, I would love to play Marvin Gaye."

The crooner is no stranger to the film world. Earlier this year he turned down the opportunity to play Martin Luther King Jr. in an upcoming biopic due to scheduling conflicts around his new album. He also played Andrew "Smoky" Salem in this year's Red Tails, about the Tuskegee Airmen. While there hasn't been a film announced about Marvin Gaye, the celeb is keeping his eye on the story of the iconic singer.
