Things just seem to be getting worse by the day in Chicago with the news that another young hip hop talent has fallen victim to the senseless violence that plagues the city. Up-and-coming Chi-town rapper Johnny “Johnny Boy Da Prince” Taylor was fatally shot and killed just before 12 a.m. on Wednesday [Jan 9].

According to the Chicago Tribune, the 23-year old was shot several times in the Garfield Park section of the city. The assailants left the promising talent, who was in talks to sign a record deal with Atlantic Records, for dead in an alley.

Johnny Boy is the second aspiring Chicago rapper to become a homicide victim within the last two weeks, as his death follows the murder of Ulysses "Chris" Gissendanner III, 19, a.k.a YPN Boomtown.

Gissendanner, who is reportedly the stepbrother of Chief Keef, was fatally wounded on Jan. 2.

Chicago authorities have yet to determine a cause for Taylor's shooting as close friends and family blame a case of mistaken identity for the deadly altercation.

"Everyone was excited that he had a shot at a record deal. He was excited because he was a good rapper," Johnny’s 14-year-old sister Collisa Davis told the Chicago Tribune. "That's what he wanted to be."

Taylor leaves behind a 4-year-old son.
