Chief Keef Taken into Custody for Probation Violation

Rapper is jailed after judge ruled he showed "willful disregard" of the court.

On Tueday afternoon, a two-hour court hearing to determine the future of Chicago rap star Chief Keef ended with bad news for the controversial rapper.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Keef was taken into custody after a judge ruled that he violated his probation. Judge Carl Anthony Walker determined that the 17-year-old hip hop artist showed “willful disregard” for the stipulations of his probation stemming from a 2012 gun charge. The rapper now finds himself in a Cook County jail as he awaits a sentencing hearing on Thursday [Jan. 17].

Chief’s probation violation stems from a video interview he did with Pitchfork in which he’s seen holding a gun at a New York City gun range. The notorious video sparked backlash for the music site and led prosecutors to argue that the “I Don’t Like” rapper violated the terms of his 18-month probation. Chief was famously on house-arrest in 2012 for pointing a gun at police officers.

In the eyes of the judge, Chief holding the gun in the Pitchfork video was no different from him being in the possession of one at home.

The rapper was handcuffed and escorted from the court following the hearing.
