Hit-Boy Deads Cruel Winter Rumors
Looking for some heat this winter? Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music aren't going to help.
Hit-Boy has confirmed that Cruel Winter, the rumored sequel to last's year G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer, is likely just that: a rumor. In an interview with L.A.'s Power 106 radio station, the rapper-producer, who just signed a deal with Interscope, set the record straight.
"From what I know, it's not real," he said. "Until I get that word from Kanye himself like ‘we doin' this,' then it's not real. So it is what it is."
Hit-Boy, who produced the standout single "Clique" on Cruel Summer, is the second G.O.O.D. Music–affiliated artist to throw cold water on the Cruel Winter rumors. Common recently told New York magazine, "I don't think that's happening."
But these rumors didn't emerge from thin air: Big Sean and Q-Tip have both hinted at the album's existence.
It's possible that Kanye, a known perfectionist, put the kibosh on the album after Cruel Summer failed to live up to expectations. The album met a lukewarm reception from both fans and critics and has sold 380,000 units to date, far below the million-plus copies Kanye's last solo album, 2010's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, sold.
