Mogul expresses his displeasure with the rapper for using his name in a song.
Forget banging on wax, Twitter is the modern day venue for airing beef and Donald Trump isn't afraid to use it. The attention seeking businessman and host of The Apprentice franchise threatened rapper Mac Miller 140-characters at a time today, saying he illegally used his name in the song "Donald Trump."
The tweets, from his @realDonaldTrump account, get increasing angry, though there are no replies from @MacMiller: "Little @macmiller, you illegally used my name for your song 'Donald Trump' which now has over 75 million hits," he wrote. "Little @macmiller, I want the money not the plaque you gave me! Little @macmiller, I'm now going to teach you a big boy lesson about lawsuits and finance. You ungrateful dog! Little @macmiller — I have more hair than you do and there’s a slight age difference."
This rant represents a turnaround for Trump, who back in August praised the rapper on YouTube. "A lot of people are calling me about the Mac Miller rap song. Now, it’s named ‘Donald Trump.’ Maybe you should pay me a lot of money, but it just did over 20 million people, tuning into Mac Miller," he said. "So in one way, I’m proud of him. I haven’t actually seen the language, it’s a little hard to understand on the song itself. Probably, it’s not the cleanest language you’ve ever heard, but this kid is the new Eminem. Everybody says he’s fantastic. Let’s see what it is. But the ‘Donald Trump’ song just hit over 20 million, that’s not so bad. I’m very proud of him." The first of the missives already has 5,633 retweets.
Who knows if Trump will actually file suit against the Pittsburgh rapper, but he wouldn't be the first. In 2005, Rosa Parks settled a suit against OutKast for their 1998 song that used her name in its title. The suit alleged defamation and trademark infringement, which did not hold up in court. As part of the settlement, the duo and their record label agreed to work with the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development to share Parks' legacy with youth around the country.
