The league continues to search for cause of Super Bowl power outage.
Yes, Beyoncé gave a lights out performance during the Super Bowl halftime show, but the NFL doesn't want her to be the scapegoat for an incident that marred its biggest game.
As the investigation into what caused a 34-minute power outage at the Superdome continues, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell dispelled chatter that the music superstar's high-powered show blew the power out in the building.
"There's no indication at all that this was caused by the halftime show. Absolutely not. I know that's been out there that this halftime show had something to do with it. That is not the case," Goodell said.
According to the Associated Press, Goodell and Doug Thornton, vice president of the company (SMG) that manages the Superdome, both confirm that Beyoncé's 13-minute set was running on its own generator.
"It was not on our power grid at all," Thornton said, adding that the metered power consumption went down during halftime because the house lights were down.
Right now the league is blaming the outage on an unspecified "abnormality" in the Superdome's power system.
Goodell also put to rest speculation that the city of New Orleans may have blown its chance to host the Super Bowl in the future because of the embarrassing fallout from the incident.
"I fully expect that we will be back here for Super Bowls," he said. "And I hope we will be back. We want to be back. This is clearly something that can be fixed, and it's clearly something that we can prepare for. And we will."
