Prosecutor asks judge to revoke singer's probation for issuing false information.
Chris Brown is expected to make an appearance in a Los Angeles court today to fight a motion by prosecutors that claims he did not properly complete his community service sentence for the 2009 assault of Rihanna.
According to the Associated Press, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office believes the singer provided false information as it regards to the community service work he performed in Virginia. They also have serious concerns about Brown's anger management issue and point to two recent events that show he has not gotten the problem under control.
The D.A. cited last week's fight with Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean and the 2011 chair-throwing incident Brown was involved in on the set of Good Morning America after he was asked about his relationship with Rihanna. In addition to the public brawl and outburst prosecutors say an audit of Brown's community service time raises concerns of fraud.
"This inquiry provided no credible, competent or verifiable evidence that defendant Brown performed his community labor as presented to this court," Deputy District Attorney Mary Murray wrote.
The District Attorney's office conducted the investigation following a September 2012 hearing where a judge praised Brown for his community work. Records showed that Brown logged 701 hours in seven months - an amount that had previously taken him more than two years to complete. The red flag sent LA investigators to the singer's hometown, Richmond, VA, where they spoke to Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood, who was overseeing Brown's community labor.
There is even an allegation that Brown's mother, Joyce Hawkins, filled out timesheets rather than the supervisor assigned to the case.
Of course, Brown's attorney Mark Geragos is vehemently fighting this motion. In a statement issued to the AP, Geragos called the motion frivolous.
"I plan on asking for sanctions from the DA's office for filing in frivolous, scurrilous and frankly defamatory motion," he said Tuesday.
When Brown makes his scheduled appearance today he'll do it before a new judge in the case. Judge James Brandlin has been assigned to the matter after a recent shuffling of judicial assignments.
