DJ Clue Arrested for Drugs and Suspended License

Police detain the radio personality in New York during traffic stop.

Legendary New York deejay and radio personality DJ Clue was arrested for drug possession and traffic violations early Wednesday (April 3) reports NBC 4 New York.

Clue, born Ernesto Shaw, was stopped at a checkpoint in Lower Manhattan and was found to be driving with a suspended license. Police searched him and discovered three pills wrapped in tin foil, according to law enforcement sources.

The 38-year-old DJ was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operation. Clue was driving a black Range Rover on Varick Street around 2 a.m. when he was stopped. His license had been suspended eight times according to reports.

Clue rose to fame in the 1990s through the release of high quality mixtapes that featured exclusive music from the newest artists of the day. He was eventually hired by Hot 97 before leaving to join rival station Power 105.

The Queens native released two major label albums via Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, which featured star-studded collaborations from artists like Jay-Z and DMX. He went on to launch his own label, Desert Storm, helping to start the careers of Fabolous and Joe Budden in the early 2000s.

Sources expect Clue to be arraigned in a Manhattan court later today. He has yet to release a statement or information through his attorney.
