NFL to Investigate Jay-Z Over Geno Smith Signing
Less than two months after being investigated by the US Treasury Department for a trip to Cuba, the NFL Players Association would now also like a word with Jay-Z regarding his involvement in Geno Smith signing with Roc Nation sports agency.
Smith made headlines when he fired his agents after a disappointing NFL draft where he was selected 39th overall, then last week told the press that he was signing with the newly formed Roc Nation sports agency, where he would be represented by Kimberly Miale.
The New York Jets rookie made it clear that Jay had nothing to do with his decision, but the NFLPA grew suspicious upon discovering a photo of the two together that had been posted around the time of the signing.
The investigation will look into whether or not Hov's involvement violated the "runner rule," which was implemented in April 2012.
The "runner rule" forbids anyone without the appropriate credentials (or "runners") from being involved in the recruiting process.
In just over a month, Roc Nation sports has already signed New York Yankees star Robinson Canó and WNBA baller, Skylar Diggins.
