Kanye West Says Paris Fashion Week Inspired "I Am a God" Track

Hip hop star says incident at fashion event sparked controversial song.

Leave it to Kanye West to draw godly inspiration from Paris Fashion Week, of all places. Granting yet another rare media interview (he's done two so far, in case you've been keeping count), this time with W magazine. In the latest issue West explains how "I Am a God" was born from the restrictions put upon him by the fashion industry.
Last fall, the 36-year-old was invited to attend a fashion show on grounds that he wouldn't go to any others, and from a seemingly minor incident "I Am a God" came about. "The next day I went to the studio with Daft Punk, and I wrote ‘I Am a God,’ ” he said. “Cause it’s like, Yo! Nobody can tell me where I can and can’t go. Man, I’m the No. 1 living and breathing rock star. I am Axl Rose; I am Jim Morrison; I am Jimi Hendrix.”
In breaking down the process, West continued praising himself with his voice getting "louder and louder," according to the writer behind the article. “You can’t say that you love music and then say that Kanye West can’t come to your show! To even think they could tell me where I could and couldn’t go is just ludicrous. It’s blasphemous — to rock ’n’ roll, and to music."
During the interview, West even addressed rumors that he upgraded girlfriend Kim Kardashian's style. Like his ex, Amber Rose, the influence of rap's biggest name changed the trajectory of Kardashian's fashion freebies. Almost overnight the raven-haired beauty went from rocking lesser-known, but more affordable, designer duds to European labels not typically found on the back of a reality TV star. The self-appointed "Louis Vuitton Don" was filmed replacing all of Kardashian's old clothes on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but claims that she has free will. "Nobody can tell my girl what to do," he said. "She just needed to be given the platforms of information to work from."
West believes Kardashian is brave for stepping out in options that tend to elicit negative reviews, like the floral-print turtleneck dress with matching shoes and gloves she wore to the MET gala. “For her to take that risk in front of the world, it just shows you how much she loves me," West continued. "And how much she actually loves the opportunity to learn. You got, like, a million companies saying, ‘This is impacting your brand! This is impacting your fans! And blah blah blah.’ But she still sees this light of beauty.”
Even with all that fashion expertise, the Chicago native's transition into the industry wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms. In 2011 West debuted his long-awaited DONDA fashion line. Instead of the praise usually allotted to his personal sense of the style, the design attempt fell flat. Critics were mostly unmoved by his first descent into women's wear, which featured lots of figure hugging designs, plunging necklines, fur and randomly exposed skin.
