Tupac to Receive a Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The iconic MC will be honored for his film credits in 2014.

He's sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, wowed film critics like the late Roger Ebert with his commanding presence on the big screen and now, nearly 17 years after his death, Tupac Amaru Shakur will posthumously receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tupac was announced as an honoree on Thursday by Hollywood Walk of Fame committee chairman David Green and will be joining other 2014 inductees, which include Katy Perry, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Rick Springfield, Jennifer Lopez, Giancarlo Esposito and more.

One person who got to know the famed fiery side of the "Keep Ya Head Up" MC was director Allen Hughes, who, along with his brother, was physically assaulted by Tupac after firing the young star from Menace II Society in 1993.

In a recent interview with MTV, Hughes spoke on what he believes Tupac would have brought to the cult classic. "If Pac had been in the movie he would've outshined everyone," said Hughes. "As wonderful a performance as Larenz (Tate) was, I think Tupac...it would've thrown the whole axis of the movie off if Tupac was in it, because he was bigger than the movie."

Pac's last film performance came in the 1997 crime drama Gang Related, co-starring James Belushi and Dennis Quaid.
