Jay Z Premieres "Picasso Baby" Trailer
Jay Z has released the official trailer for his next visual, "Picasso Baby," the first supporting music video for his chart-topping, certified platinum Magna Carta Holy Grail.
Dubbed a "performance art film," the video is set to premiere this Friday, Aug. 2.
"Rap is thinking out loud, and you're putting your fears and your vulnerabilities and your insecurites to music," Jay says in the 30-second clip featuring mostly fans and a few celebrities, including acclaimed performance artist Marina Abramović, actress Taraji P. Henson and Roc Nation's Wale. Reportedly while filming he rapped the song repeatedly for six hours straight at the Pace Gallery in New York City.
"Concerts pretty much are performance art," he said. "In a smaller venue, it's a bit more intimate, so you feel the energy of the people."
The "unprecedented performance experience" will air following Jay's appearance on the season finale of HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher. This is the second time that Maher, famed for his "New Rules" segment that closes out his show, has had the #newrules rapper as a special invited guest. The show airs at 10 p.m. ET.
