Singer gets closer to ending tax troubles.
Kelis is more than halfway done settling her nearly $800,000 tax debt, TMZ reports. The "Milkshake" singer shelled out almost $400,000 towards the outstanding debt, according to three different federal tax liens filed by the IRS and released last month.
Kelis forked over $391,967.36 to cover her entire federal tax debt. She owed a total of $741,027.59 in back taxes to California and New York, stemming from 2004-2010.
The huge amount doesn't mean she's completely out of the red with Uncle Sam just yet. If the remaining liens in New York and California aren't settled, the 34-year-old mom is subject to penalties, which will drive up the balance.
The Harlem native's finances were one of the main subjects made public during her split from Nas (who has dealt with his own share of tax drama). In 2009, a judge ordered the Queens MC to pay her $55,000 a month in spousal and child support, a number which was later reduced.
Their divorce was finalized the next year.
