Damon "Boogie" Dash Jr., 22, was charged with misdemeanor assault and strangulation following the Sept. 22 altercation at his Chelsea apartment where he reportedly choked the woman during a "dispute over sex," a source told the Post.
“She was visiting him at his apartment, he got violent with her, starts to punch her, slap her and shove her onto the bed, got on top of her, he grabs her by the throat and chokes her,” the source said.
Although they briefly made up, the girlfriend called police after a second argument. According to the misdemeanor complaint, the victim was left with "red marks" on her neck after Dash “placed both of [his] hands around [her] neck and squeezed tightly," making it hard for her to breathe. Aside from bruises, she suffered a black eye and a cut to her lip.
At his arraignment a day later, Dash Jr. was ordered to stay away from the victim and has since been released on bail.
Dash Jr., who works as a DJ/producer and co-founded a bakery company, has one previous arrest but the details have been sealed.
The elder Dash also has had his own share of legal issues, money troubles and criminal run-ins with women, namely a $15 million lawsuit filed by a model who accused him of rape in 2003 and a $30,000 sexual harrasment suit brought on a year later by a Georgia woman.
