Kanye West's Yeezus Goes Platinum

'Ye's seventh album surges past the one million mark.

All hail Yeezus, it's officially platinum!

Kanye West's seventh studio album pushed one million units, the Recording Industry Association of America announced via tweet Wednesday (Jan. 15), "Congratulations to @kanyewest on his 7th @RIAA #Platinum album award for ‘Yeezus” – he’s 7 for 7! W @DefJamRecords.

Yeezus was released June 18, beating out J. Cole's Born Sinner and Mac Miller's Watching Movies With the Sound Off for top chart placement. In spite of anticipation and critical acclaim, the album suffered a more than 80 percent drop on the charts a week later, and was eventually pushed down the Billboard charts.

West dubbed Yeezus the antithesis of his older work, shunning radio-friendly tracks in place of more experimental efforts. "This album is moments that I haven’t done before, like just my voice and drums," he told the New York Times last year. "There’s no opera sounds on this new album, you know what I mean? It’s just like, super low-bit. I’m still, like, slightly a snob, but I completely removed my snob heaven songs; I just removed them altogether."

To promote the LP, West launched the Yeezus tour in September, his first solo run in five years. Although crippled by cancellations in the beginning, the multi-date jaunt made $25 million to become 2013's second-highest grossing domestic tour, behind Beatles giant Paul McCartney.

'Ye has since added nine additional dates to the Yeezus tour, which picks back up next month.
