Pharrell Picks Up Oscar Nomination

Skateboard P's "Happy" gets a nod for the 86th Annual Academy Awards.

The Oscar nods are in, and congratulations can go out to Pharrell Williams, who has joined the still far-too exclusive list of hip hop artists nominated for Academy Awards.

The producer, rapper, singer, fashion designer — dare we say "creative genius" — got a nod from the committee for his infectious song "Happy" (the one that came with the world's first ever 24-hour video) from Despicable Me 2.

Pharrell's nomination is in the "Original Music" category that Eminem won in 2002 with "Lose Yourself" from 8 Mile (he was the first rap artist to ever do it) and that Three 6 Mafia won in 2005 with "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" from Hustle & Flow.

This year, at the 86th annual ceremony (airing live Mar. 2), "Happy" is up against "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, the title track from Alone Yet Not Alone, "Let It Go" from Frozen and "The Moon Song" from Her.

P is credited as both producer and songwiter for the track. He and composer Heitor Pereira scored the entire Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.
