Young Simba helps launch a new concert series featuring TLC and Janelle Monáe.
J. Cole kicked off VH1's Super Bowl Blitz concert series at Queens College in New York Monday night (Jan. 27). Cole was introduced by hosts Nick Cannon and Stacy Kiebler, officially launching the first of six live music shows leading up to Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 2).
The 29-year-old rapper celebrated his birthday with the VH1 crowd, opening his show with "Trouble" off Born Sinner. From there, he launched into a rap medley of Born Sinner cuts, including his "Crooked Smile," as well as older tracks like "Can't Get Enough" and "Nobody's Perfect."
At midnight, audience members sang "Happy Birthday" to the North Carolina native before he ended the run with "Power Trip."
Cole's Queens show is the first of five performances taking over a different NYC borough every night before the final show hits Madison, N.J., the night before Super Bowl XLVIII.
