Lil Boosie Prison Release Delayed

Boosie release date pushed to March.

Bad news for the "Free Boosie" movement, Lil Boosie won't be home from prison this month.

Journalist Jeff Weiss, who has been following Boosie's court proceedings and previously interviewed the 31-year-old, announced the news via Twitter last Friday (Feb. 7).

According to Weiss, Boosie's tentative release date is scheduled for next month. "Just received confirmation that Boosie will not be getting out of jail next week," he tweeted. "However, his release is imminent — most likely in March."

He added, "A parole board hearing was scheduled for Boosie next week but was canceled, because it didn't make sense considering his release is so soon."

The rapper, born Torrence Hatch, is currently serving an eight-year bid for smuggling drugs into prison. He has been locked up at the Louisiana State Penitentiary for the last several years, initially stemming from a 2008 weed bust. Boosie was later charged with the murder of Terry Boyd, a 35-year-old Louisiana man. He was acquitted of Boyd's murder in 2012.

Last week, Boosie's publicist confirmed that a prison release was imminent, but would not share an official date over "safety concerns."
