TV station's latest program gives a behind-the-scenes look at New York radio.
From their nationally known DJs to their infamous yearly hip hop festival, Summer Jam, HOT 97 has long been known by their catchphrase, "Where hip hop lives," and now they're inviting viewers behind the scenes via VH1's newest reality show, This Is HOT 97.
The 30-minute unscripted show will feature some of the biggest names in hip hop plus the station's central cast of characters including celebrity on-air personalities Funkmaster Flex, Angie Martinez, Cipha Sounds, Peter Rosenberg, DJ Enuff, Miss Info, Laura Stylez, and, quite possibly the most polarizing member of the team, program director Ebro Darden.
The on- and off-air drama that's kept the wheels turning at New York's most popular hip hop station is sure keep viewers in their seats. HOT 97's been at the center of some of culture's most controversial — and dangerous — moments, including a shootout involving Lil Kim's entourage in 2001 and 50 Cent dropping Game from G-Unit in 2005, resulting in more shots fired outside the station.
But the team is ready for more action. Last year, to celebrate their 20th Summer Jam, the venerable radio station launched an eight-part Web series based on the day-to-day planning and preparation for the event.
This Is HOT 97 premieres March 31.
