Cudi dropped by the set to chat about his music and perform his new song, "Internal Bleeding," Friday (March 14), reports the Huffington Post.
Hall, a legend in the late night talk show circuit for a reason, hit a nerve when he asked, "If you could look into the camera and speak to your colleagues, what would you tell them that hip hop needs?"
"I think the money, cash, hoes, braggadoccio needs to be deaded," Cudi responded quickly and firmly. "I feel like that's holding us back as a culture, as Black people, that doesn't advance us in any way, shape or form ... if you're going to be an artist there's a time when you have to embrace the responsibility and understand that the power of music is something so special and to be able to do it on this magnitude where you reach millions of people, it's like, why not use it for good? Why not use it for something to tell kids that they can connect with in their own lives?"
Cudi, still "worked up" by the question, then shared his day-one mission, his voice breaking with vulnerability. "All I wanted to do was help kids not feel alone, and stop kids from committing suicide," he said. "I dealt with suicide for the past few years. There wasn't a week or a day that went by where I was like, 'I wanna check out.' ... I know it comes from loneliness, I know it comes from not having self-worth, not loving yourself ... it's a terrible thing."
As for how he's doing now, Cudi says he's "good."
Hall later asked him about what kind of car he drives, and, after Cudi revealed his collection, Hall pointed out, "If you chose to rap about the stuff you have, it'd be a nice little ditty."
"Yeah," Cudi agreed. "There would be no Drake."
"Internal Bleeding" is off Cudi's latest full-length collection, Satellite Flight: Journey to Mother Moon, which released Feb. 25.
