Billboard Partners With Twitter for Real-Time Charts
Finding out the latest on the new chart-topping hits will soon be just a tweet away. On Thursday (March 27) Billboard announced an exclusive multi-year partnership with social media juggernaut Twitter forming 'Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts.'
The new venture, which is set to launch in the coming weeks, will track U.S.-based music conversations taking place on Twitter, while also offering consumers real-time data on music sales, according to Billboard.com.
Data regarding both numbers as well as specific songs being discussed will be aggregated and packaged in what is being billed as "in-Tweet video round ups" and "in-Tweet charts." Distribution of charts will also be released via Billboard's Twitter account multiple times a week.
Billboard, which has long been known as the nation's primary source of entertainment sales data, has made it a mission to stay ahead of the curve incorporating song-streaming media, such as Spotify, into their Hot 100 singles chart and unveiling their Social 50, which compiles data such as Facebook "Likes" and "Shares."
The move looks to keep up with a society that continues to consume information and entertainment with an increasing sense of immediacy.
