Brooklyn rapper says he's the "King of New York."
Papoose certainly isn't lacking in the confidence department. In an interview with the New York Daily News Friday (March 29), the 36-year-old MC crowned himself the "King of New York" and announced that "nobody" is better than he — not even Jay Z.
“None are more lyrically inclined than me. None of them," he said. "I’m definitely the king of New York. I am the greatest out of New York."
After claiming rule over the Big Apple, he went directly for Hov. Papoose has no beef with the Roc Nation boss, he just thinks he's better than Jay. "When I look in the mirror I don't see Jay Z — I see Papoose," he explained. "More power to him, but he's not better than me."
Unfortunately, being better than Jay hasn't helped Papoose's relationship with the radio world. The Brooklyn native has been struggling to get spins on New York stations, and his debut, The Nacirema Dream, has sold fewer than 20,000 copies since it dropped last March. With or without radio backing, Papoose said he plans to release new music, which he will get out to fans on a monthly basis.
Papoose also discussed his wife Remy Ma's impending prison release. Remy has been locked up for assault since 2008 and is scheduled to get out of custody July 31. The day she is set free will be a "very special day" for the couple. "They say I never smile, but they going to see me with a Kool Aid smile that day," he said.
