Benzino Addresses Shooting on New Song, 'Walk Away'
Gunshots won't keep Benzino out of the studio. The hip hop entrepreneur, who was shot by his nephew while riding in his mother's funeral procession last month, raps about the painful experience in a new track called "Walk Away."
The Source co-founder even recruited Rick Ross for the track, who provided the hook. "They shot at the car, walk away like Benzino," rhymes Rozay.
Benzino narrates the events of the fateful day in his opening verse: "Tried to spill my blood, but couldn’t handle it/speeding to the church, yo keep those candles lit/wake me momma, feel like it’s a fantasy/Sitting with the devil, drinking Hennessy."
The nephew, Gai Scott, was apprehended by police shortly after the incident and awaits trial. His lawyer claims he was acting in self defense. "I shot at him; I was in fear for my wife and a baby,” Scott said, according to a police report filed in court. “He’s been threatening my life.”
