Kelis Talks Setting the Mood for Food in the New GQ
On the heels of her next album, Food, Kelis tells GQ magazine readers her secret to throwing a bossy dinner party. It's all about setting the tone with the music selection.
"You want to create an atmosphere, but still have it be something people can talk over — it's not a frickin' rave, it's my living room," she explains of how she prepares for her presentations. The Cordon Bleu grad's dinners are a favorite among industry insiders.
As for what kind of music the "Milkshake" singer might play these days, "Massive Attack's Mezzanine is nice to start," she said; "then maybe you go to Roberta Flack's Chapter Two."
Food, Kelis's sixth album, drops Tuesday (April 22). Her article appears in the April issue of GQ.
