Chris Brown's assault trial has been pushed back once more, possibly for several months, reports the Associated Press.

Trial proceedings were scheduled to begin today after they were delayed to give lawyers an opportunity to hash out a debate over allowing Brown's bodyguard Chris Hollosy to testify at the trial.

Prosecutors denied Hollosy immunity, which means that he will not take the stand until his own assault conviction in the case is appealed. The start of Brown's trial is likely to stay in limbo until the Hollosy appeal process is complete. 

Hollosy was found guilty of attacking Parker Adams, 20, at the W Hotel in Washington, D.C., last fall. Hollosy was tried separately, even though he and Brown were both arrested for the altercation that night. Hollosy, 36, was reportedly going to testify that he attacked Adams alone. Adams claims he was punched by both men. 

Brown, 24, is still on probation for beating Rihanna five years ago. He has been in custody since mid-March for getting kicked out of court-ordered rehab, where he had been receiving treatment for anger management and bipolar disorder. The singer was handed over into the custody of the U.S. Marshals earlier in the month to begin his trek from Southern California for the D.C. trail. With various stops to pick up and drop off other inmates along the way, the trip took Breezy several days. He finally arrived at a Virginia jail facility two weeks ago, but will now be returned back to custody in California. 

A hearing in the case has been scheduled for June.
