50 Cent Reunites With G-Unit at Hot 97 Summer Jam

Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and Young Buck join Fif on stage.

For a moment on Sunday evening, Hot 97’s Summer 2014 felt like Summer Jam 2004. The annual summer concert held at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium was the venue for a totally unexpected G-Unit reunion.
Yes, the moment most rap fans thought they would never see happen. 50 Cent was joined on stage by Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and Young Buck to perform many of their hit songs that dominated hip hop a decade ago. The years of turmoil that set the group on a course of self destruction was all set aside for this historic moment.
With surprise performances being a staple of Hot 97’s Summer Jam, this G-Unit get-together ranks among the biggest we’ve ever seen. The moment seemed even more epic due to the fact that it followed 50 Cent being introduced to the stage by Nas. The former foes stood in solidarity after 50 hit the stage to perform “I Get Money.” Minutes later members of G-Unit joined him to perform “On Fire," “So Seductive” and “Shorty Wanna Ride.” The impact of the occasion may have been slightly dampened by the small skirmishes that broke out on stage between the clique’s entourage and security.
Notwithstanding the mini melee brewing behind him, 50 was feeling right at home on the Summer Jam stage.
“This is the way I like it right here," the Queens native told the tri-state audience. "Nice and ghetto."
Afterwards he shared an image of the crew all together on Instagram with the caption, “Things go the way I say they go. now I think it's time we get busy. #smsaudio #animalambition.”
Prior to Summer Jam the thought of putting this foursome back together seemed impossible. 50 himself repeatedly shot down the idea. Now, time will only tell if this flashback to a glorious past will lead to future success for the once-revered collective.
