The "Options" singer is about more than novelty records.
Traditional R&B is back on the map. While veterans Usher, Trey Songz and Ne-Yo are leading the pack, new artist Luke James is ready to join the fray and leave his musical footprint on the industry. The singer has been writing and singing backup for other artists for years, and now he’s ready for the spotlight and to fulfill his destiny.
The Grammy Award nominee is gearing up to release his first studio album and has settled on the title: Luke James.
“The title of the album is Luke James; self-titled. It’s my first album, official album. If anyone knows nothing of me, this is who I am,” he told BET.com.
The lead single off the album is “Options,” featuring Rick Ross, but ironically, the seasoned songwriter didn’t pen the song — someone else wrote it and brought it to him. Luckily for him and the writer, the song’s concept had been on his mind, but he hadn’t gotten around to writing it at that point in time.
“It’s an experience that I went through and a situation that everyone knows about or has gone through," James admits. "It just hasn’t been spoken, hasn’t been sung about. It’s a great message and about making choices.”
With the summer ahead of him and an album release date locked in (September 23), Luke James is hoping to leave a lasting impression among his peers and music fans everywhere.
“It’s natural for me to write songs that mean something to me rather than just a novelty record," James says. "I feel like songs that stand the test of time, those are songs that make you cry and move you in such a way that no other can."
