The hip hop duo reveals how their collaboration with the actor-turned-singer came to fruition.
After 20 years in the music industry, Mobb Deep is still true to their art, comfortable in the musical space that they occupy and more than happy to expand their horizons by working with new artists, like their unlikely collab with actor-turned-R&B crooner Mack Wilds.
"You know, we've got the new gunna on the album ... Mack Wilds. Through industry relationships, he was thrown towards us," Havoc revealed. "I didn't even know, we didn't even know that he was an artist. We know him from The Wire, 90210 and all of that, so when we found out that he was a singer, you know, it kinda blew my mind."
The musicians were connected by one of the best producers in the business, when Wilds was recording his debut album.
"Salaam [Remi] hit us up and wanted us to get on his project because they were using the 'Burn' track and they wanted me to produce that over," Havoc continued. "So I produced it over, and then we were like, 'Let's put Mack Wilds on the [Mobb] album.'"
"Mack Wilds's video is crazy man, it's dope," Prodigy said. "We had a lot of fun doing it. We had a lot of girls there. French is on the record, Busta came through, we just had a lot of fun. It was almost like a remake of the 'Flavor in Your Ear' remix type of video."
Wilds and the fellas also got together for Mobb's new music video, "Low."
