ScHoolBoy Q Working on Oxymoron Follow-Up

Rapper says he's already back in the lab for a new album.

It hasn’t been a full 12-months since ScHoolBoy Q dropped his third album and first major label debut, Oxymoron, but the TDE rapper is already coming down from the high of his first No. 1 album and preparing to work on the follow-up.

The “Studio” rapper revealed Tuesday (Sept. 9) that he began working on his next project, but don't ask for details yet. "I just started yesterday, so I really don't know,” Q told HotNewHipHop regarding the direction of the album. "I mean, I know what I wanna do, but things change. I knew what I wanted to do with Oxymoron in 2012 but I didn't drop it til 2014.”

It was worth the wait. Even with a new album in motion Q said he’s still in Oxymoron mode and riding the wave of the success of his latest single, “Hoover Street.” Meanwhile, his highest charting single, “Studio,” continues to get airplay.

The critically acclaimed album landed Q with four nominations at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Collaboration. “To be able to get nominated for something, that says something … there are only five or four artists who could be nominated,” he said.

And with Oxymoron still buzzing, Q isn’t 100 percent focused on scheduling a release date for a new album. “It's just another album that I have to put out,” he casually said. “There’s no telling when I will put it out.” He did add that he was looking at dates sometime next year.
