Nas: My New Album Is Done
Nas has revealed that his next studio album is already done and a new single is on the way. The Street’s Disciple delivered his announcement on the remix to SchoolBoy Q’s “Studio,” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid.
He opens with, “Finished up my new album, single about to be droppin’/Last album on Def Jam and I got so many options.”
The “Studio” line is the latest update Nas has given on the new LP. In April, he confirmed that the project was on the way. “Two years I think it's been, since my last album,” the Queens MC told NPR. “So this new one ... I'm happy to get it together and get it out there.”
Nas started putting the album together close two years ago. He was working with Timbaland at the time, only to walk from the project because he needed a minute to “step back and take it all in.”
The time off rejuvenated Nas to get back to business, but there’s no word yet on what the album will be called. The 40-year-old has a flare for naming his work after themes like, It Was Written, Hip Hop Is Dead, and Life Is Good, the latter of which is a nod to his divorce from Kelis.
For most of this year Nas has been celebrating the 20th anniversary of his lllmatic debut with a tour, documentary, and special edition re-release of the album.
