Dr. Dre Tops Forbes Hip Hop Cash Kings List

Beats mogul proves to be a major game changer, replaces Diddy as highest-paid act.

The deal heard 'round the world has catapulted Dr. Dre to No. 1 on Forbes' annual Cash Kings list. He has beat both Diddy (who held the 2013 title) and one-half of music's first billionaire couple, Jay Z, by at least 10 times as much in earnings for this year.

When Apple acquired Dre's and Jimmy Iovine's headphones brand for $3 billion, Dre picked up a $620 million pretax windfall. Last year he banked at $40 million. Diddy and Jay are tied at No. 2 with $60 million.

Drake tripled his money from last year's $10.5 to $33 million thanks to Nothing Was the Same's four-million-units sold status and an endorsement deal with Nike. He logs in at No. 4.

Knocking out his Young Money Cash Money label mate Nicki Minaj for No. 5 is Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, whose combined $32 million is also a triple jump from last year's $9 million. The duo started off 2014 with four Grammy Awards.

DJ Khaled makes his Cash Kings debut this year. He rounds out the list at the No. 20 spot with an estimated $7 million.
