Pharrell Williams Added to the Apollo Theater's Board of Directors
Pharrell Williams has another new job to add to his résumé. He’s been named a member of the Board of Directors for the Apollo Theater, reports Complex.
The famed Harlem music hall announced Tuesday (Oct. 28) that Williams and six others have been added to the board, bringing the total to 32. “The Apollo Theater embodies a tremendous amount of music history,” the Virginia native said in a statement.
Williams, a.k.a. Skateboard P, who just performed at the Apollo for the first time in June, added that he is “so excited to help preserve, and expand, its legacy in American culture.”
Wiliams is the only recording artist among the current group of board members. The rest of the list includes Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and chairman of the Kraft Group; employment and labor lawyer Carolyn Minick Mason; Goldman Sachs managing director Jason L. Matthews; event planner Bronson van Wyck; and Charles Phillips, the chief executive of software company Infor.
The board’s projects include raising $20 million for the 21st Century Apollo Campaign, funds which will benefit education, programming, and updates to the theater. The Apollo has so far raised more than half of the needed amount.
