Kendrick Lamar Unveils New Song on The Colbert Report

K-Dot drops the world premiere of an untitled cut on the TV show's final episode.

Anticipation, that clichéd feeling for a new album, it keeps rising for Kendrick Lamar's next, reminding the world what the word really means; and it got worse this week when he unleashed a new song on The Colbert Report.

"A lot of excitement in the house to have you on," Stephen Colbert told Lamar in the chat before his performance. The appearance was for the final episode of the long-running TV show. Colbert is to take David Letterman's spot at The Late Show in 2015.

"No pressure... Honored to have you on," Colbert continued, "but keep in mind that Paul McCartney, R.E.M., Jack White and Nas were the opening acts.”

K-Dot delivered. He began his untitled song with a story, as he does so well, boy meets girl, and then he dips into a lyrical introspection about the balance of peace and fame. "Put a price on my talent, I hit the bank and withdraw/ Hit the bank and withdraw, hit the bank and withdraw/ Put myself in the rocket ship and I shot for the stars," he spit.

Then he hands the song over to Terrace Martin on sax for an airy reprieve, and closes it out with the Bébé Kids over a frenzied outro. "Tell 'em we don't die, tell 'em we don't die/ We multiply, we multiply, we multiply..."

No word yet if this song places on the new album (although, it's expected to). A release date, title, and other details for the follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d. city also have yet to be announced.

Lamar's first single from the project, "i," dropped in September and is already Grammy-nominated (for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance).
