Update: Beanie Sigel Released From Hospital

Rapper reportedly recovering from lung complications from shooting incident.

UPDATE: Doctors reportedly were forced to remove one of Beanie Sigel's lungs because it was so badly damaged after he was shot last month. The internal organ was filled with bullet fragments, according to TMZ.

Sigel, whose birth name is Dwight Grant, still has a ways to go before he fully recovers. The rapper was released from the hospital earlier this week, and taken to the Barach Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. He will spend 90 days in the facility, where he will learn how to function with one lung.

Beanie Sigel has been released from the hospital after being shot in New Jersey last month, Complex reports.

Philly rapper Neef Buck announced Sigel’s release on Instagram today (Jan. 5) with a photo of the 40-year-old cloaked in a blanket, as he was being helped from a wheelchair into a waiting vehicle. “Alhamdulillah !!!! Masha allah !!! MY BOY IS HOME !!!!!@beaniesigelsp,” read the caption.

Sigel was shot while dropping off his children for school in early December. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A source told BET.com that recovery has been taxing and painful. “He’s not doing so well. It’s a really bad injury,” said the source, noting that Sigel had just been taken off of a breathing machine.

Authorities determined that he was not the intended shooting target, but have yet to apprehend a suspect, or release a motive.

Sigel's sister-in-law was one of several people police were looking to question about the incident, although investigators are having trouble getting witnesses to talk.

The investigation remained “wide open” as of mid-December. There have been no new reported updates since then.
