Azealia Banks Blasts Kendrick Lamar

Banks calls out K Dot out for comments on race in Billboard interview.

It’s safe to say that Azealia Banks strongly disagrees with Kendrick Lamar’s comments in Billboard magazine. Banks blasted Lamar on Twitter earlier today (Jan. 9) over his thoughts on Ferguson and racism in America.

While Lamar said in the interview that the shooting of Ferguson teen Michael Brown "should've never happened,” he somewhat turned the tables. “When we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us?” Lamar said. “It starts from within. Don't start with just a rally, don't start from looting — it starts from within."

Banks tweeted a portion of Lamar’s quote, calling it the “the dumbest s**t i’ve ever heard a Black man say.” She went on to challenge his theory by questioning the Compton native on the “generational effects of poverty, racism and discrimination.”

“There are things in society that benefit a select few of us. fine. But don't put down the rest by saying they don't respect themselves,” Banks tweeted.

She further chastised the TDE rapper for talking race with Billboard. “HOW DARE YOU open ur face to a white publication and tell them that we don’t respect ourselves….Speak for your f***ing self.”

After moving on from Lamar specifically, Banks delved into the subject of racial indoctrination. "I really pray for the minds of the urban youth," she wrote. "I really do because I was once on the side of feeling like I wasn't owed anything…Once on the side of feeling like Black people ain't s**t because that's what America and my social studies textbooks taught me.

“Becoming an adult and doing my own research has REALLY opened up my f***ing eyes, and I get upset to know that....There are still young Black kids in our public schools being indoctrinated with the same s**t they pumped into my head.”

Banks tweets openly about race (even if that means calling out other rappers), and recently spoke on the subject in a Hot 97 interview.
