Paula Patton to Testify in 'Blurred Lines' Lawsuit

Robin Thicke's ex will take the stand in court battle brought on by Marvin Gaye's children.

Paula Patton is expected to testify in the trial over Robin Thicke’s mega hit, “Blurred Lines.” Thicke has been battling Marvin Gaye’s children against claims that he ripped off the late soul singer’s music more than once, although the smash single is at the root of the legal war.

Patton will take the stand over the 2011 single “Love After War,” according to TMZ. The actress reportedly co-wrote the song with Thicke, in addition to appearing in the music video. Gaye’s family alleges “Love After War” mimics “After the Dance.”

Last September, the family presented audio evidence of the “substantial similarities” between Thicke's and Gaye’s music with a mashup of the two songs, as well as “Blurred Lines” and Gaye’s 1977 single, “Got to Give It Up.”

A judge later ruled that the family “made a sufficient showing that elements of 'Blurred Lines' may be substantially similar to protected, original elements of 'Got to Give It Up.'” Thicke’s motion for a summary judgment was denied.

“Blurred Lines” is the biggest single of Thicke’s career to date. The Grammy-nominated track, featuring a guest verse from T.I., was produced and co-written by Pharrell

In a legal deposition, Thicke admitted to being under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol during the making of "Blurred Lines." He claims Pharrell wrote much of the song.
