Iggy Azalea: I Sparked a Change in Hip Hop

Aussie rapper talks about leaving an impact on music, changing what is acceptable.

No matter how long, or short, her career may end up being, Iggy Azalea can already see how she’s changed hip hop.

The “Fancy” rapper has been on the good and bad side of fame for the last year or so, and no matter the multi-platinum records, she’s still a topic of contention within hip hop. But that's not necessarily a bad thing in her mind.

The 24-year-old Aussie talked about the culture-altering effects of her music in a GQ magazine interview. “At the very worst, if I have a short-lived career, at least I could say I sparked a change — that I inspired some leniency in what people accept in hip hop. And if I have a very long career and can be gyrating in a leotard at 35, that would be great.”

Azalea, who is up for four Grammys next month, also explained how winning awards helps her deal with the backlash. "Anytime where people get to choose who they want to have a voice and they choose me, I just think that makes it worth it.”
