Report: Suge Knight Unaware He Ran Over Hit-and-Run Victim

Sources close to rap mogul say he feared for his life.

Intent matters when there's a murder charge, and in Suge Knight's version of the incident that led to the death of his friend Terry Carter, he was too shaken to even realize that he had struck him with his vehicle.

In the past six months, Knight was shot six times (in August), hospitalized for a blood clot (in Novemeber), and allegedly "lured" to a Straight Outta Compton promotional shoot for a peace talk with his former business partner Dr. Dre, only to be jumped by two, to possibly four men.

Sources close to Knight say that he was in fear for his life when he fled from the latter; that he was held "hostage" (TMZ's words) in his truck by his attackers and was so focused on his escape that he didn't know he had hit Carter and injured another man, actor/film consultant Cle "Bone" Sloan.

Knight's lawyer James Blatt has said that it was an accident and he believes his client will be vindicated.

Witnesses have said that it looked intentional, and that even if he didn't mean to run over Carter, he meant to hit someone.

This weekend, Blatt noted that there was video footage in police custody that would likely prove Knight's version of the story. It has since been revealed that the security cameras that would have captured the incident were either broken or pointed in other directions. Investigators are reportedly looking for someone who may have caught it all on a mobile phone.

Knight is expected in court Tuesday (Feb. 3) morning.
