De La Soul Launches Kickstarter for New Album

"Me Myself and I" trio gives lessons in sampling with fan-funded LP.

De La Soul has a new challenge for the fans and sampling attorneys alike (and those who are one in the same).

The 3 Feet High and Rising trio launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund an LP tentatively titled New Album. The idea is to "make our own music first, and sample that," explained Trugoy the Dove. To make the album he said, they're working with 16 "amazing" musicians...and a monkey.

Rewards range from a bonus track to a special invite to one of their sound checks to an autographed plaque right off of Trugoy's wall.

"Sometimes we set out to make history, sometimes history sets out to make us," said Posdnuos.

Their goal is $110,00 and, with 32 days left, it's looking like it's happening. As of press time, they've reached $83,000...and rising.

"We want to thank all of our wonderful fans throughout the years for their love and support," said Maseo in the video posted to their Kickstarter page.
