Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Suing YouTube Co-Founder
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have been given the green light by a California court to sue YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley. The famous couple is taking legal action after the couple's marriage-proposal video was leaked. According to Page Six, the lawsuit dates all the way back to 2013 when the couple accused Hurley of purposefully leaking the clip on his own site, MixBit.
Though Hurley's attorneys initially appealed the lawsuit in 2014, the 2nd District Court in Los Angeles has ruled that the case can now go on since Kim and Kanye have adequately proven that they can win the suit.
Billboard reports that Hurley argued that a confidentiality agreement he signed was not binding on Mixbit, proving that he did not leak any classified information about the event. However, an 11-page ruling issued on Wednesday stated that some of Hurley's claims lack credibility.
The Wests' lawyers released a statement on what they believe Hurley's motive was, saying that "Hurley's new venture, MixBit, was not doing well... he posted the video on MixBit, which provided it with significant publicity, and he did so within hours of leaving the event. A jury may reasonably infer fraudulent intent from these circumstances."
Fans may remember that the extravagant propsal was aired live on the reality star's show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which is how the couple wanted it to be released. However, Hurley posted the original video on his site before it was officially aired on E!
West proposed to Kardashian in October 2013 at San Francisco's AT&T Park before a string orchestra while family and specially invited guests looked on from the sidelines.
