For all the criticism and blame directed at hip hop, it’s influence is incontestable. Now, over 40 years later, the art form is maturing in different ways, and along the road are a breed of fresh MCs intent on making a name for themselves within the story.

Pro Era’s Joey Bada$$ is among a collective of younger artists seated at the table of upperclassmen, but is he the new face of hip hop? The “Chris Conscious” rapper believes so.

He humbly explained the topic in an interview for Skee TV’s “In Focus” series. “I say I’m the new face of hip hop in the whole,” he said. “My message went deeper than New York. I started getting known and gaining credibility outside of New York first. It was like outside then it came in.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Joey shed light on buidling Pro Era, learning from Capitol Steez and being involved in all aspects of career. “I got a lot of things on my plate," he noted.

The Brooklyn native will spend much of his summer performing on his World Domination Tour and putting together a special festival dedicated to Steez.
