Jason Derulo Might Join Tinder to Find His Next Bae

The singer talks dating, his new TV gig and album with Billboard.

Pop music heartthrob Jason Derulo is on a roll. With a new judging gig on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance, his new album, Everything Is 4, set to drop next month, and the May 2015 cover of Billboard magazine all under his belt, the newly single star is anything but bored. In his cover story for the publication, the "Talk Dirty" crooner touches all bases, discussing his new ventures, "bachelordom," and ditching his squeaky clean image.

With his fourth LP due June 2, Derulo — born Jason Desrouleaux — pulled out all the stops, enlisting heavy-hitting names for the project including Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Meghan Trainor, but it was one particular music legend whom the Florida native is pretty stoked to have featured. Derulo told Billboard that he invited Stevie Wonder to sing and play the harmonica on his new song "Broke" after bumping into him at a White House dinner in 2014. "If I hear that song on the radio and I'm not on it," Wonder said, according to Derulo, "I'ma whoop your a*s."

He's not only rubbing shoulders with big names on the music front. With his new gig on So You Think You Can Dance, the "Wiggle" singer will sit beside iconic entertainer Paula Abdul and Nigel Luthgoe at the judges' table. Recalling the first time he met Abdul, he praised her endearing qualities, not at all surprising. "She's like a fairy," he said. "Sweet and nurturing. The most likable person you'll ever meet."

When he's not balancing his hectic schedule, the singer apparently enjoys dabbling in the dating world. After splitting last fall from his longtime girlfriend, Jordin Sparks, after three years together, he has a new, interesting philosophy on dating. "[My love life is like] a deck of cards," he said. Take from that what you will, but he did go on to explain that he is "having a good time getting to know people." He's even been considering popular dating app Tinder from afar, but doesn't think it's practical given his current caliber of fame. "It'd be like, 'A million new requests today!' That's just wrong," he said.

While he claims he handled the public breakup like a gentleman, he admitted that he sometimes gets tired of playing Mr. Nice Guy. "I do get tired of playing nice," he said. "Especially when people think I did something wrong, or that she broke up with me. But it's so behind me."

Elsewhere in the interview, the 25-year-old dished on his current obsession with fitness, his musical background, and his binge-watching habits — he loves him some Empire like the rest of us. Pick up the latest issue of Billboard magazine, available online and on newsstands now.
