Action Bronson Performance Pulled Over 'Consensual Rape' Song

Toronto's NXNE drops rapper after petition went viral.

Music lovers aren't here for Action Bronson's new song, much less it's title "Consensual Rape," and it seems as the folks over at North by Northeast (NXNE) share the same sentiments. The Toronto music festival canceled the New York MC's June 21 performance amid public uproar surrounding the scandal, reports Billboard.

As of press time, more than 40,000 signatures have been collected on a Change.org petition to pull the poerformance. NXNE made it official by axing Bronson from the set list. The petition organizer, Erica Shiner, cites the track's sexist and violent lyrics as problematic. "Action Bronson glorifies gang-raping and murdering women," she wrote.

In case you haven't heard or read the lyrics to the song, here's a sample: "Make your body do an ollie / Then dig your shorty out cuz I geeked her up on molly / Have her eating d**k, no need for seasoning / If seven dudes are in the room then she's pleasing them / Like a trooper. Hit her in the pooper. Throw her in the shower / Then I take her out to Lupa."

Despite the justified disgust the public has with the song's violent content, Bronson seems to be unbothered by the backlash. In fact, based on a series of tweets the Vice/Atlantic signee posted, he seems flattered, saying that he's going to be around for a while. "F**K ALL YALL HATERS BLOW D**K," one of his posts reads. "WHO GIVES A F**K!! UR GONNA BE SEEING SO MUCH MORE OF ME FOR SO MANY YEARS TO COME ULL HAVE PLENTY MORE TO HATE ON. STAY TUNED," he continued.

Initially, NXNE was in support of Bronson, encouraging attendees who may be offended to "check out other Festival showcases." However, after the festival's managing director Sara Peel left the door open for discussion, the deal was sealed, as hundreds weighed in on social media, television, radio and print media, rallying for the artist to be removed.

In a press release issued by the NXNE directors on Friday, Bronson's fate was sealed. "A significant number of Torontonians have indicated their desire to have Action Bronson not perform at the Square," it reads. "As annual guests in this space we feel we must accede to the strong wishes of the community and honor their input. As a result, we will not be presenting Action Bronson at Yonge-Dundas Square but, hopefully we will still be presenting Action Bronson as part of Northby."

Toying with the idea of rape should never be tolerated, and this proves just that.
