Following in the footsteps of great musical storytellers like Michael Jackson and R. Kelly, Tyrese is giving his second single, "Shame," from his upcoming — and last — album Black Rose the short film treatment.
Tyrese and Jennifer Hudson star as husband and wife in the period film, and, as the title of the song suggests, their relationship is fraught with regrets. We have to wait a little longer to see the short in its entirety, but Tyrese did drop a taste on Tuesday, in the form of a minute-long trailer which features both Ty, the actor, in a dramatic scene with Hudson, and Ty, the singer, crooning into a retro microphone about all the ways he wronged his woman.
The short is directed by music video icon Paul Hunter and produced by Denzel Washington. Tyrese tells Access Hollywood he's aiming for an Oscar (yes, they have a category for short films) with the clip, and it seems he has plenty of Hollywood veterans backing him.
