No matter what tactics he uses, Suge Knight can’t get his way in court lately.

The co-founder of Death Row Records has skated through more legal troubles in his career than most people do in a lifetime, but the January hit-and-run incident that took a man’s life could end up being his toughest fight yet.

Knight and his lawyer, Thomas Mesereau, were in court today, attempting to get the murder case dismissed by discrediting the testimony of key witness Cle “Boan” Sloan. 

The judge refused to drop the case. 

Sloan identified the now 50-year-old embattled music vet as the person who ran over and killed 55-year-old Terry Carter while trying to get away from what Knight maintains was an ambush. Yet at a preliminary hearing in April, Sloan changed up his story. His refusal to name Knight on the stand shows a lack of credibility, Mesereau argued in court today. 

Judge Stephen A. Marcus disagreed. "He doesn't say that it's not him,” Marcus pointed out, noting that a longstanding “soap opera” beef between Sloan and Knight resulted in Carter's death. “The only person who had a motive was Suge Knight," said Marcus. 

The decline of the former mogul is one that has been happening over the last “decade,” says former associate Cash “Wack 100” Jones. "Suge lost focus of the business, and who he is," Jones told Rolling Stone. "He could've been a lot of things, but he chose not to." 

Knight has been locked up since the beginning of the year. His bail was recently reduced to $10 million from $25 million, although Mesareau will try to get the amount lowered.
