Wale Encouraged Teens to Pursue Higher Education at the White House

The D.C. rapper also met President Barack Obama.

Wale was asked to participate in an initiative that encouraged more than 130 college-bound students to make it to college. But he didn’t expect to actually meet the president.

Michelle Obama hosted the 2015 Beating the Odds Summit in Washington, D.C., on Thursday (July 23). It featured a tour of The White House and a panel discussion that included topics such as financial aid, adjusting to college life and meeting new people. The summit was part of Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative, which motivates students to complete their education and pursue the goal of making “education cool again.”

Wale also treated guests with a performance, where several students shared their photos on Twitter. Afterwards, he got the rare opportunity to take a flick with President Barrack Obama. “Thank you for havin me.. Wasn't planning on meeting with 'the man' but it was a pleasant surprise,” Wale wrote on Twitter.

Reportedly, President Obama made a surprise appearance before the concert and commented on his rap skills. “My rapping skills are terrible. That’s one thing I can’t do is rap. I like rap but I cannot rap.”
