Over the weekend, A$AP Ferg hosted a health fair in Harlem, benefiting underprivileged children in his hometown, Miss Info reports.

Ferg joined with The Children’s Village and People of Peace for the 1st Annual Ferg Health Fair, which was inspired by his father’s death from kidney failure.

Losing his dad motivated Ferg to help others make life changes. Children, in particular, are “not schooled to how serious they’re eating habits can be,” according to the rapper.

“They think getting healthy is not cool,” he said in a video from the event. “My father [died] from kidney failure by eating bad and not putting the right things in his body. He went very early, in his 30s. He had more life to live, and I want people to take the right precautions.”

The day’s activities included one-on-one DJ lessons from the Jam Master Jay Foundation and Scratch Academy, a Q&A session with Ferg and health vouchers for mental and physical medical exams.
