'Dreams' Producer Meez Is Ushering in a New Sound for LA

He's on the come up.

J. Cole is one of the biggest rappers in the world, but he’s also got an ear for talent.

Last June, Cole signed California native Cozz to Dreamville Records off the strength of his Meez-produced single, “Dreams.” Since then, Cozz has released his debut album, Cozz & Effect, and toured with his label mates extensively on Cole’s Forest Hills Drive Tour and Dollar & A Dream Tour. While Cozz has been growing his fan base with his music, his producer and friend Meez is building himself as one of the new faces of L.A.’s sound.

Earlier this week, Pigeons & Planes premiered Meez’s “I Can Tell” video. Pay attention to Meez’s production here — woozy synths with hard-hitting drums that you can easily vibe out to. Like his other standouts, “Westside Poppin’” and “Ya Know Dat,” Meez is becoming the architect for Cozz’s music and he’ll be a name to look out for soon.

For this particular record, he grabs talented newcomers Correy C and Free Ackrite. In the video, they rap inside the neighborhoods of LA's Crenshaw District and Inglewood, which shows a strong sense of hometown pride. Check out the video below.
