Tweet Is Back With a New Single

She's also working with Missy Elliott again.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard a peep from Tweet.

The Grammy Award-nominated singer is getting ready to drop a new studio album, Charlene, along with a single called “Won’t Hurt Me.” Next week (Sept. 21 to be exact), we’ll be getting to hear Tweet’s “Won’t Hurt Me,” as well as watch the song’s video that’ll premiere later on.

“All of the upcoming album’s songs are pages out of my diary,” she tells Billboard. She goes on to explain the meaning behind “Won’t Hurt Me,” which is a song about a man who wanted to be more than just friends. “You can be friends without catching feelings. But he did and I didn’t feel the same way. Spending time together doesn’t mean it’s love.”

Tweet’s third LP will feature longtime collaborators and producers Craig Brockman, Nisan Stewart, John “Jubu” Smith and Charlie Bereal to help her shape its sound. “It’s me going back to the basics when I fell in love with music as a young Charlene,” she says. “There was church, Stevie WonderMarvin Gaye … It’s food for the spirit and soul. It’s still Tweet but more secure in the woman and artist I am now.”

For loyal Tweet fans, she’s teamed up with Missy Elliott again, who will make an appearance on Charlene. The two have made hit songs together, including “Oops (Oh My)” and “Turn da Lights Off.”

“We sound good together and both respect and inspire each other," Tweet says. "She always pushed me to be an artist. It’s a sisterhood that will never be broken.”
