Young Thug Accused of Ripping Off Louisiana Rapper's Viral Hit
Young Thug’s “Best Friend” music video could land him in court, provided that the claims of a Louisiana rapper hold true. Tokyo Vanity, who is behind the viral hit “That’s My Best Friend,” accuses Thugger of ripping off her music and she’s threatening to sue, Yahoo News reports.
Vanity blasted Thug on Instagram yesterday after he released his new music video. According to one post, Vanity declined an invite to appear in Thug’s visual because she didn’t want to “be in the video for that pooh-a** song.”
The two songs aren’t similar beyond the titles. Still, Vanity sees Thug’s “Best Friend” as a clear knockoff. "That song is pooh as his f***ing dreads, b***h,” she said on Instagram. "He had to steal something, b***h. Career going down the drain, b***h. Got dropped from the label. Birdman f***ing over.”
Vanity's “That’s My Best Friend” has been viewed more than 1.5 million times since August, and Thug isn’t the only one potentially latching onto the friendship concept. Trey Songz also appears on a song called “Best Friend” with St. Louis artist J.R.
